Torys (トリス pronounced “torisu” and not “ˈtôrēs”) is a famous brand of whiskey from Suntory. Or perhaps it’s infamous, depending on your point of view. Torys is a cheap whiskey that nobody in their right mind would drink straight or on the rocks because it is not very good nor made for sipping. It is execlusively designed as a base for highball cocktails. It’s basically the Nikolai Vodka of Whiskey.
There exists a normal Torys Highball Can, which is just Torys and soda water. I’m not even going to review that on principle – it’s literally a drink made for people to lazy to mix whiskey and water themselves. However, this ginger-flavored whiskey highball chuuhai did intrigue me because the ginger flavoring held the promise of something new. Unfortunately, I was left feeling very disappointed – the ginger flavor is almost non-existent, so all I experienced was cheap, bad whiskey with soda water. At least, at 5% alcohol this does give the same kick as most beers and is refreshing, but I wouldn’t pay money for this again.
